Men of Action - Fellowship Events: Seek the Way

Our Men of Action put together our main events such as our Hillside Monthly Men's Breakfasts, our Men's Retreat, our Golf Tournament. These events are so vital because this is where most men come to realize that they truly are forgiven and actually begin to live changed lives because of what our Savior did for us.

Men's Breakfasts   -   Claude Beaudry

The Men's Breakfasts are informal fellowship events where you can meet men from Hillside UMC and the community.  Breakfasts are held the second Saturday of each month, except February, when Hillside has its Men's Retreat (a spectacular spiritual event that lifts men up from their burdens into the gifts of the Spirit and a relationship with Jesus Christ).  Each breakfast is an opportunity to get to know the men you see at worship and around the church on a more personal level, and grow together as Brothers in Christ.

We offer a hearty breakfast and a spiritual message presented by church members, pastoral staff, or special outside guest speakers from our community or a far away land.  You are invited to bring someone from the church, a coworker, a neighbor, a new friend, a relative, or someone from the community.  The cost is $5.00.  For more on the next breakfast, click here.  For more information about any of the breakfasts, please contact Claude Beaudry.

Men's Retreat   -   Rodney Slone, John Gerick, George Williams, Blake Roberts, Mike Turk

This year, our retreat returned to Camp Glisson in Dahlonega, Georgia and was held on February 4,5 and 6, 2011.  This year we had the entire gymnasium for our meeting facility.

We were very fortunate to have as our Retreat Speaker, Ken March.  Ken is presently a 767 Captain for Delta Airlines and is the pastor of World Conquering Ministries in Loganville, Georgia.  He is the author of the book: A Fighter Pilot's Guide to Spiritual Warfare.

Ken was born in 1959 to a military family.  He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a BS in agriculture.  After college, he entered the Air Force where he flew F-16's.  He served seven years on active duty and eight years in the South Carolina Air National Guard.  He is a highly decorated aviator that has logged over 2500 hours in the F-16 including 50 missions flown in the first Gulf War.  He is married with three children.

Ken started his spiritual journey early in life.  He accepted Jesus as his Saviour at the age of 12.  He  diligently started pursuing God when he was in college and has not stopped since.  God has gifted Ken with a tremendous teaching ability.  His understanding of the Word of God comes from an intense desire to know who God is and how He relates to man.

Here is the message from Ken about speaking at our retreat:

I want to thank you for your consideration of my leading your February meeting. God has called me to ready His church for the times ahead.  As we get closer to the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, things in this world will get pretty choatic.  However, as believers, we should not be shaken by what will go on in the world.  Jesus told us in John 16:33, "In the world you will have tribulation ; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."  God has provided all we need to walk through our everyday lives with peace and victory no matter what is going on in this world system.  As I look back on my life, this is what God has prepared me to do.  My experiences in the Air Force have equipped me to understand tactics and strategies to use the weapons we have been given to defeat the enemy that wants to kill, steal and destroy us.  God is declaring that we are not to just exist in the world but be more than conquerers in this world.  It is my purpose to open the eyes of Christians to the great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:3).  My approach will create questions in people's mind.  That is on purpose, so they will go find out for themselves if what I am teaching is true.  It is when one meditates on the Word of God and hears from God themselves that faith is established in their lives.
I look forward to the opportunity to share the revelation I have been given!

About the Retreat:  The Hillside UMC Men's Retreat is a spectacular spiritual event that lifts men up from their burdens into the gifts of the Spirit and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. [...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Galatians 5:22-23].  Men enjoy a tremendous weekend of personal and spiritual growth, and special fellowship.

Each retreat is an opportunity to discover your faith or renew and restore your personal walk with Jesus Christ.  You will discover that all men have very similar challenges in their lives, even though we think our problems are unique to only us.  The confidential support of Christian brothers has lifted many men out of the darkness and depths of despair, marital strife, personal brokeness, family crisis, health fears, financial stress, and career concerns.

Men tend to withdraw and turn inward to resolve their challenges, when the real solution is to turn your life over to your Lord and Savior, and resolve your challenges through the body of Christ in a non-threatening atmosphere of brotherly love.  At the retreat, you will discover restorative resources you didn't even know were available!
